Keeping our children and families safe is our priority.

Let’s be safe

  • First responder training

The NAA-NT participates in the police academy and Plano PD police and emergency personnel training by providing resources and educating them on autism and gives them an inside view of our children, how to communicate with them, and how to help them.

  • Autism & Wandering

Wandering/elopement is the tendency for an individual to leave the safety of a responsible person’s care or safe area, which may result in potential harm or injury. This might include running off from adults at school or in the community, leaving the classroom without permission, or exiting the house when the family is not aware. This behavior is considered common and short-lived in toddlers but may persist or re-emerge in those with autism.

  • Water Safety

Children with autism are 160 times as likely to die from drowning as the general pediatric population. Researchers recommend providing swim lessons immediately following diagnosis. Follow this link for more information on how we can support you.
